Centro de la Familia

Welcome to Centro, a beacon of support and advocacy for the Spanish-speaking community. For over 30 years, we have dedicated ourselves to bridging the service gaps for the non-English speaking population, overcoming barriers rooted in language and culture.

Our History

Centro began with a mission to provide mental health services to the Hispanic/Latino community. Recognizing the broader needs of our community, we soon expanded our services to include advocacy and comprehensive support. For three decades, we have been steadfast in our commitment to delivering quality services, standing in the gap, and being a lifeline for those who are underrepresented and underserved.

Our Commitment

Our commitment to the community is to provide bilingual services that are culturally relevant and delivered with respect and care. We understand the unique challenges faced by the Hispanic/Latino community, and we strive to address these with compassion and competence. Our services are designed to empower individuals and families, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to thrive.

Our Growth

As the Hispanic/Latino population continues to grow, so does the demand for services that understand and respect their cultural and linguistic needs. According to recent data, the Latino population in the United States grew from 35.2 million in 2000 to 61.7 million in 2022. This demographic is becoming increasingly diverse, with unique needs and experiences that must be recognized and addressed. In Colorado, this trend is no different. Policymakers and service providers must prepare for an increasingly diverse Latino population.

Our Future

Centro is committed to adapting and expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of our community. We are proud to be the only local agency offering bilingual services that are both culturally relevant and delivered with the utmost respect and care. As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to being a cornerstone of support for the Hispanic/Latino community, advocating for their needs and ensuring they receive the quality care they deserve.

Expanded Services

In keeping with our commitment to adapt to the needs of the population we serve, Centro has expanded our programming over the past year. Recognizing the rising demand for mental health services and the increasing number of individuals affected by intimate partner abuse (DV), we have implemented several new initiatives.

To address these critical needs, we launched peer support groups facilitated by qualified mental health professionals. These groups provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals to share their experiences and receive professional guidance.

Services

Additionally, thanks to generous grants from El Pomar Foundation and the Denver Broncos Foundation, we began an advocacy and support outreach program for high school students. This program targets two local high schools with the highest number of Spanish-speaking, monolingual students who previously had no language support. We mobilized volunteers from two local colleges to provide language tutoring and regular meetings with students. These sessions facilitate discussions on adapting to a new culture while supporting the maintenance of their own cultural identity.

Through these initiatives, Centro continues to stand as a vital resource for the Hispanic/Latino community, ensuring that all individuals have access to the support and services they need to thrive.
